Gone are the days when children enjoyed simple toys such as building blocks, mechanical sets, jigsaw puzzles, dress up dolls and kitchen sets which were the usual toys that were given with much love and care by friends and relatives on special occasions such as birthdays and Christmas. Today‘s kids prefer the electronic toys and both boys and girls would rather prefer a computer game or gadget than a board game or a pack of cards. Even the dolls of today are hi‐fashion Barbies or dressed in designer clothes, whereas little girls in the past would scream with delight to get a fairy doll or one dressed as an angel.
Experts say that playing with toys is essential to a child‘s development starting from the infant stage. Kids‘ toys like rattles, mobiles, toy teethers, and key rings help babies connect sound, sight, taste, touch, and smell to objects. Rattles do help them learn about cause and effect not to mention introduce colors and shapes. Color and shape recognition, spatial relationship awareness, hand‐eye coordination, and other motor skills are exercised through playing with educational toys that were made specifically to enhance those skills. There are also kids‘ toys that enhance the kids‘ imagination and creativity. Some toys even teach them patience (think floor puzzles) and reinforce the concept of hygiene (think bath and tub toys).
However, safety is another very important issue that you have to take care of. Remember, the kids are always very tender and vulnerable. They don‘t have much of a common sense either. So, make sure that the toys are safe for their careless uses. Ideally, the children‘s toys should be made of soft or light materials so that the kids don‘t get injured by them. They should not have any sharp edges and things like that. Also, you have to check out the material used to make the toy. It should be non toxic. Also, the color used in the kids toys should be safe. Also, make sure that the toy does not have tiny parts as the kids can swallow them.
The first rule while buying toys is to select the area of interest of child. If child has a tendency to jump all over the place, it wouldn‘t be a bad idea to get him or her trampoline. Climbing frames is yet another recommended toy and browsing the internet will get you still acquainted to a larger variety of toys. But while buying these toys, the very first question you will need to ask yourself is whether those toys are safe. If you aren‘t sure about its safety then inquire to a toy expert about the same or get in touch with the manufacturers of the product.
Kids love toys, there‘s no doubt about that. Just to watch the look on their little faces when they are presented with a new toy is worth all the gold on earth. Kid‘s toys are not only for play, toys teach little kids so many things life and are only miniature models of life size items they would have to deal when they are adults. A little boy who loves an electric car might take it apart to see how it works. He could one day become a great mechanical engineer or even a race car driver. A little girl who plays with pots and pans and dolly tea sets might turn out to be good doctor or nurse or even a housewife who knows how to look after her family.
Although toy storage can be quiet expensive, you don‘t have to spend a lot of money on it. There are a couple of ways to keep your kid‘s room organized even without purchasing toy storage. You know those clear boxes used for shoe storage? You could always use those keeping your kids‘ toys, especially for the little toys that would get lost in big toy boxes. You can have one kind of toy per box. Like, one box for building blocks; one box for toy cars and one box for art supplies. This way, your kids can just grab one and play. No need to take all toys out, unlike if you‘re kid has only one box for all the toys.
