Following that train of thought, I have always believed that you should have a number of different resumes prepared. In a previous article, I talked about having the wherewithal to adapt one‘s elevator speech to the situation one finds him or herself in. Likewise, the cover letter and resume you send should be tailored to the needs of the person receiving it.
Every potential employer will want to see a resume from you and it is the quality of that resume that will determine who gets a job interview. Your resume is tantamount to a sales brochure about you. After having read your resume the potential employer should have a better understanding of who you are and your possible suitability for the advertised role. It serves to get the employer better acquainted with you so that, hopefully, they can decide if they want to get to know you better. The resume is the first step. It is your introduction to an employer and it is where the employer will get their first impression of you. First impressions really do count! If you make a poor first impression, you‘ll never get to take part in the job interview process. You will never get a second chance to make a first impression, so make the most of the chance you get.
Less than 5% of job seekers take the time to invest in a professional, high quality resume. Do you think, of all those potentially qualified applicants, if you are the one with the resume that stands out, that your chances of being selected might increase exponentially? Once you have been selected to take part in the interview process, then it is up to you to communicate, to the potential employer, that you are not only the best qualified applicant but you are also ready, willing, and able to do the job at the highest level.
As we know those resumes are presented on behalf of the candidates, it is the very first thing that let the employer know about those candidates therefore, it must stand on top of the rest of the resumes. Resumes which are crafted by the expert writers, who have composed scores of professional resumes, enhances the chance of getting short listed and early interview call. Most of the times, it has been seen that candidates who have less experience and qualification are selected due to excellent resumes and those who have adequate requirements get nothing due to poor resume presentation.
Even the ”cheapest” services may end up costing you more in the long run when you realize you‘ve just thrown away money to someone who used the same Word template you could have utilized on your own without including important information. The higher-priced services may conversely, lead you to believe that you absolutely NEED a $1000 resume and frequently land their clients based on a strong sales pitch for the resume and additional services, not on their writing talent. Price should equal value, i.e., the ultimate return on your investment. If you are quoted a reasonable fee (somewhere well in-between the $99.00 guys and the $1,000+ heavy hitters), you have a good chance of paying for a well-crafted document that can easily generate more interviews, boost your confidence and frequently position you as a candidate worthy of a position that commands a higher salary.
In a military battle, there tends to be an advance guard that moves forward of the main army group. The advance guard‘s purpose is to prepare the way for the main fighting force. Behind the main force is generally the rear guard. You are the main fighting force and the battlefield is the interview. Your foe is all the other applicants, all your shortcomings, all the misgivings and doubts that interviewer may have, and the needs and wants of that interviewer.
