We could tell them that taking care of their toy is like us taking care of them. But let us be worthy models for our kids. If our kids see us not organized with our own stuff how could they follow us if we do not practice what we preach?
Organizing your kid‘s room or personal space can really be quite a challenge. This is more so if you have more than one kid. The problem mostly with cleaning a kid‘s room is that it gets messed up again as soon as you‘re done cleaning it. Kids are not aware how important it is to have a clean room, and they can‘t exactly understand this if you explain it to them. What most mothers need to understand is that explaining things to kids alone wouldn‘t really make the picture stick. Kids follow more by example. Remember the phrase ”monkey‐see, monkey‐do”?
That‘s what you need to remember. Showing kids how to clean and maintain the cleanliness of their room will make them follow this important routine. You also need to make cleaning fun. Make it more like playing than actually cleaning. Have a fun music play in the background, and play with the toys as you go about the cleaning. Tell them stuffs like how dolly likes to stay in the top shelf, and that‘s her permanent place from now. Or how Mr. Cowboy thinks of the toy box as his home, and that he needs to go home right after playing. Things like these will be remembered by your kids, and they wouldn‘t think of cleaning as a chore anymore.
Look for the multiuse toys that are durable and simple to play. You can find branded kid‘s toys online that won‘t demand costly batteries. Add some Barbie dolls, Disney toys, puzzles, brainteasers; wooden blocks in your kids toy box. Puzzles and brainteasers help in developing the learning and reasoning ability. Moreover, it‘s always good to choose simple yet learning toys to help your child engage in the best way. Look for the toys that encourage your kid to learn something new. Pick some smart learning toys for kids for the grownup kids, especially above three years. Add scrabble, math table games, and many other toys that help in the mental growth.
My children have thousands of toys. Each Christmas, birthday or generic holiday in between grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends load them up with the latest toy fad. One year our son ended up with two dancing Boohbah toys. Who in the world needs two of these creatures? Each year right after Thanksgiving we sit down as a family and decide what we must keep, what we can throw out and what is still okay enough for donation. I will admit I have one child who would toss it all except her dry erase board. The other is so wrapped up in his toys he wants to keep even the tiniest of broken pieces. One thing that we can come to a final agreement on is that there is someone who wants toys that won‘t have any this year and we have an abundance. The other thing we agree on is that the holiday and coming year will bring many new toys for them to enjoy.
Experts say that playing with toys is essential to a child‘s development starting from the infant stage. Kids‘ toys like rattles, mobiles, toy teethers, and key rings help babies connect sound, sight, taste, touch, and smell to objects. Rattles do help them learn about cause and effect not to mention introduce colors and shapes. Color and shape recognition, spatial relationship awareness, hand‐eye coordination, and other motor skills are exercised through playing with educational toys that were made specifically to enhance those skills. There are also kids‘ toys that enhance the kids‘ imagination and creativity. Some toys even teach them patience (think floor puzzles) and reinforce the concept of hygiene (think bath and tub toys).
