Price Wars- As with any product or service, it‘s tempting to choose the least expensive one. On the other hand, it‘s not uncommon to believe that the highest priced service is the best; after all, they must be good in order to command thousand dollar fees, right? Wrong. While the price of the resume and limitations of your budget are important considerations, you don‘t always get what you pay for.
Whereas, in the latter type of writing services i.e. professional writing companies, they produce the resume according to the information given to them by the candidate. Normally they personally contact the candidate to get the required data and sometimes they just hand them the questionnaires. These required data may include the qualification of the candidate, objective or career aim, past experiences and accomplishments and responsibilities. Explicit and precise information of the candidate assists the writers in crafting a perfect and professional resume.
As we know those resumes are presented on behalf of the candidates, it is the very first thing that let the employer know about those candidates therefore, it must stand on top of the rest of the resumes. Resumes which are crafted by the expert writers, who have composed scores of professional resumes, enhances the chance of getting short listed and early interview call. Most of the times, it has been seen that candidates who have less experience and qualification are selected due to excellent resumes and those who have adequate requirements get nothing due to poor resume presentation.
This almost precludes sending out mass resumes or dropping off 50 resumes at a job fair. Having multiple or adaptable resumes mean researching and targeting. In essence you should have two core resumes. The first resume is the one that you would send ahead. The second resume would be the one you leave behind after the interview. Because while I do think that Richard Bolles is dead on, sometimes you have to send a resume ahead of you.
I‘ve been asked a number of times for a resume overnight or for ”discounts” on quoted services because they have only budgeted X amount of dollars. First of all, the better your resume, the more opportunities you will receive...and there is no way a writer can ”throw something together” without taking the time to learn a great deal about you! If a service promises overnight work, you have to ask yourself why? If they are that readily available, then they aren‘t a very busy practice - probably for a reason. Most quality services offer a several day turnaround time and the writer typically spends several hours on each project. A quality, working resume can‘t be rushed if it‘s done right (and beware of any service who can ”fit you in” in a day. Good writers are busy for a reason).
Video resumes can take several different forms - you can make a CD or a DVD out of it by filming it yourself and then sending it to prospective employers the same way as you would a traditional resume. On the other hand you could create a video resume website for the payment of a modest hosting fee. There are also web based employment services who will host the video resume for you and ensure that it is passed on to appropriate prospective employees. Some website let you insert a YouTube video onto the online resume - or a career related video or a demo reel or similar. Many of these also offer tips, advice and DIY instructions on creating your own video resume templates. You could also, in the alternative post your video resume on YouTube where it can be viewed by anyone.
